How to Decide What to Write for a Special Occasion
Wording things perfectly takes a moment of planning and reflection. Use these few questions before deciding what to include. Also, check out our examples to find one that works well based on your answers:
- What is your relationship with the person? This will determine how personal you want to be as well as length. The closer the relationship, the longer and more personal the wording should be.
- What values does your audience have? If you are writing for someone who is religious, then a religious message might work well. If the receiver is into sports, write a sports-related birthday message.
- What are the circumstances of the situation? Do you want to inspire or entertain with your words? Sometimes jokes are inappropriate. People are sometimes sensitive about their circumstances. Sometimes a quote is all it takes to be inspirational. Choose the goal of what you want to convey.
